  • Project Background

The piped water supply system in Cambodia includes public systems and over 400 Private Water Operators (PWOs) across the country. This demonstrates the need for skilled water engineers to ensure efficient operations and compliance. However, numerous reports have identified a shortage of skilled engineers, especially in rural areas, along with a notable gender imbalance.

To address these issues, the Center for Sustainable Water (CSW), with funding support from the Australian government through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) program, has implemented the Youth Leadership in WASH Action Program, YLWA cohort 2 under the theme “Youth Participation in Clean Water Supply, Especially Young Female Engineers” This program provides technical skills training, soft skills development, and hands-on practice to 10 water engineering students, of whom 60% are women.

The project aims to contribute to strengthening the clean water supply sector, promoting the participation and acceptance of water skilled engineers working in this field, as well as paving the way for job opportunities for these young engineers through leadership development and practical experience at 7 private water supply stations in 5 different provinces.
