In Cambodia, young leaders are stepping up to address critical water challenges. The “Story from the Field” series showcases the real-life experiences of 10 inspiring participants from the Youth Leadership in WASH Action (YLWA) Program, Cohort 2. Over six months, they worked closely with seven private water operators, tackling issues in water supply management and making a difference in local communities.

It is through this series that we will learn what they challenged and what pragmatic solutions they fashioned. Each of their stories features resilience and adaptability as they assume roles requiring technical capability and those requiring connecting people. Helping remote communities access clean water; enforcing water quality standards on-site have united and transformed lives while galvanizing local water systems.

It was just as much a journey for many of the participants personally. Working alongside diverse teams toward a single goal while confronting the challenges of public water operations, they all took home invaluable lessons in communication, collaboration, and resilience. Their stories reflect the larger struggles within the water sector of Cambodia and also the innovative ways in which young leaders are addressing them.

This collection is intended to motivate even more young professionals and stakeholders to support youth-led initiatives. The dedication and on-the-ground experience of these leaders show that it can have a long-lasting impact in the water resource management field.

Stay tuned as we bring you closer to their journey one story at a time and reveal all the wonderful changes they made in the field.
